Fiskars products are manufactured in 11 countries and marketed in 120 countries. Inha Works manufactures aluminum boats, construction components and rail fasteners, mainly for the Nordic markets. Real Estate Group manages the company`s properties and related services. Over the years, many Fiskars products have won awards at international exhibitions. Fiskars` consolidated net sales in 1998 amounted to $626 million, 94% of which were generated outside Finland. Experimenting with stainless steel bands and injection-molded plastics, Fiskars engineer Olaf Backstrom is said to have designed the world`s first lightweight “classic scissors” with orange plastic handles. A few years after its introduction to the Finnish market, the scissors were discovered by representatives of Normark, an American company that held the rights to distribute Rapala baits, also produced in Finland.
